A trusted alternative to magnesium stearate
The convenience, compliance, and efficacy delivered by SPI Pharma's excipient product line are also available in the form of lubricants. Lubripharm® sodium stearyl fumarate (SSF) is ideal for ODTs, effervescent formulas, and APIs incompatible with magnesium stearate.
While magnesium stearate is the most widely used lubricant because of its cost-effectiveness, it doesn’t always provide desired functionality. Lubripharm SSF is a better-performing solution for capsule and tablet formulations. Studies show that ejection forces and friability are lower for tablets made using Lubripharm, and disintegration times are shorter than those for products made with magnesium stearate.
In addition, Lubripharm SSF doesn’t reduce tablet strength to the degree that magnesium stearate does, it’s less hydrophobic, and it doesn’t affect disintegration or dissolution. Lubripharm SSF provides superior performance when compared to magnesium stearate across a wide range of measures:
- Higher tablet hardness
- Lower ejection forces
- Less impact on disintegration times
- Less sensitive to blending time
- Semi-soluble so lower residue when in solution or effervescents
- Effectiveness in ODT tablets
- Usage level of 0.25% – 3.0% w/w concentration
